Richber House, 222 Mary Street

The Richber House, a 1½-storey board-and-batten house, with small arches connecting the batten tops, was built in 1859 for Peter Schario (some sources give Peter Schavio), a labourer. There would have been several similar houses in this neighbourhood 150 years ago, most of which have disappeared, although a few, such as this one, remain. As with many houses of this era, the roof pitch is not steep and there are cornice returns. The front windows have 2-over-2 panes. The house was in the Richber family from 1920 until just after the year 2000.
