Originally the residence of Mrs. Samuel L. Martin. née Emily Bechtel. Mrs. Martin was widowed in 1892. After moving to Waterloo, she worked for the Dominion Life Assurance Company as a clerk in the actuarial department. She was also president of the Woman's Canadian Club and an active member of the local Methodist church.
