Commercial Block, 2–10 King Street South
Built in 1857, the year of Waterloo's was incorporation as a village, the building originally known as the Commercial Block is the oldest and largest surviving business block in Uptown Waterloo. The portion of the building at 4 and 6 King Street South has been designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and retains its original storefront style. This store was a pharmacy for much of its history, and was known as the Hahn Pharmacy between 1947 and 1987. At this location, in 1888, a project that eventually became the Dominion Life Assurance Company was conceived. A plaque on the building commemorates this event.
