The former Alexandra School was the second school in Waterloo. Originally a four-room school built in 1908 at a cost of $15,000, a six-room addition was built at a cost of $102,700 by Reitzel Bros. in 1923. It was given the name Alexandra in 1910 after Queen Alexandra. Beginning in the 1970s there was a decline in school attendance, and the school was closed after the 1982-83 school year, when only 161 students attended. After that, it was used for adult education. It was sold in 1997 and shortly afterwards converted into condominium apartments. Some of the features from its days as a school, such as the original oak floors, water fountains, and some chalkboards, have been retained.
