Historic Waterloo

Name: Koehler Block
Address: 44–48 King Street South
Year Built: 1849, addition 1919
Architectural Styles: Georgian
Heritage Status: Listed

Former residence, now in retail use. The brick had been painted white, but the building's current owner has removed the paint and made some other changes. Note the corbelled brick work under the eaves. Later known as the "Zick Block" after E. H. Zick, who purchased the building in 1906 and operated a she store at this location. The building had a close call on April 14, 1981, when the Eckert Block next door was destroyed by fire. Damage to this building, however, was minimal, as the wind blew the fire away from it.
