This two-storey residence, built of buff brick in the Queen Anne style with Italianate influences, was built for Clayton Wells, dentist and prominent Waterloo citizen. Wells served as town councillor (1898) and was actively involved in civic affairs, including the Waterloo Park Board, the Waterloo Musical Society, and the Board of Trade. In 1911, Wells moved to George Street and St. Louis Roman Catholic Church acquired the house, which was used as a rectory until the current rectory was built in 1928.
